Tagalog hat recht viele Lehnworte aus dem Spanischen und auch einige aus den Amerikanischen Englisch.
Das ist aber nicht der Grund warum die Philippinos recht gutes Englisch sprechen.
Die haben Englisch als Amtssprache. Alle offiziellen Formulare sind in der Regel auf englisch.
Der Schulunterricht in Mathematik, Geschichte, Physik, Chemie, Biologie ist in englisch 

Das war auch immer der Grund warum wir vor 20-30 Jahren immer mal wieder nach Philippinen gefahren sind. Es ist einfacher zu kommunizieren mit den SDL.
Nach 3-4 Tagen Angeles City sehnt man sich zwar wieder nach etwas Abwechslung, aber alles kann man nun nicht haben.
Pattaya ist mehr für Urlaub, Angeles City wirklich nur zum poppen

Thanks for adding that clarification. I want to add that Tagalog is only native on the Island of Luzon. There are 88 other languages and dialects in the Philippines (all with Spanish loan words). Tagalog is also Amtssprache, but only used by the rest of the Philippines in an emergency. If you watch TV, they use Tagalish which is a mix of English and Tagalog so that it is understood by the most people.

You can travel anywhere in the Philippines with English. It would actually be harder if you only spoke Tagalog.

It is the English abilities that make a trip to the Philippines more enjoyable as you can joke and flirt with the girls.

NB Philippine English should probably be called a dialect of English as they have do have other words and grammar at times. But to American ears, their singsong accent sounds lovely (I recognize it immedately when I call customer service).
